Bug in 5.2 with offline files?

Hi guys,

I've come across this several times and I wonder if I'm doing something wrong:

- I design a DVD with a menu with for example 2 videoclips
- Afterwards I decide that a clip needs to be updated
- I click on the button that activates the clip , go to the button properties on the right and choose Menu and then replace the thumbnail media and I select a newer version of my clip (even with a different name)

When I try to render , the software still 'remembers' the old file, even though its not on the harddisk nor in my project and gives an error that a file is missing

Even when I delete the older clip, then open the project it remembers and says the file is not there. And when I choose 'leave offline' it STILL wines about it and won't render my project!

Is this a bug? Or is there another way to replace a clip in a project?

Marcel

Are you clicking on "Replace Media" or just renaming the media?

Every reference to the old media must be changed, including thumbnails, menu buttons, and media. There are separate properties for each.
Of course, naming the new media identically saves some of the hassle, but you must still change some things, like out points and chapter points manually.

I found out that the audio, video and thumbnail path all had to be changed...gosh couldnt they make it easier to replace an item in a project? :)

It sounds like you are trying to find the hard way to replace media.
In the Media Properties window, , track media, dropdown menu, Replace...

The problem, as musicvid says, is that the "Replace" option only changes the video on the timeline. It doesn't change any thumbnail references -- either for the main menu button nor for any scene selection menu buttons. They still reference the old video. You have to go back to the button properties and change them.

In fact, even if you change the buttons styles to Text Only, there's still a reference to the videos that were originally assigned to the thumbnails. (Though they will now be grayed out, and I'm not sure if DVDA will complain bout them being missing.)

Or am I misunderstanding what you're trying to tell him, Steve?

Missed that. I never use thumbnails, so I haven't noticed this problem.
