Subject:Distortion only on .wma files

I know compressed files aren't supposed to sound as good as the .wav files but I'm getting freaky digital sounding distortion particularly in a section where there's a swooping pan from left to right. This is happening only when I do Save As in SF to .wma. When I save to mp3 or to .rm (which is mono) I don't get that distortion. What is this distortion, why is it only on .wma and what can I do to get around it? Thanks, Terry |

Hi. I'm not close to being an expert so take my comments with a large grain of salt. Pans usually create phase shift, a form of phase distortion. *Perhaps* the WMA encoder in SF is sensitive to phase distortion. Try decreasing the level of your .wav file so that peaks are 1 db below the maximum of 0db. If this doesn't help - "Ya got me!" |
