Subject:Sudden "skipping" in 4.5

I dump from DAT to SF and have not had a problem until recently. I used to run an entire album with no problems at all...Now, without rhyme or reason, I'm getting "skips" here and there. I have done nothing to change the default settings. I'm running a double drive system, PIII 850 with 256MB Memory.

Anybody have any suggestions?

Try restarting your pc and close any running apps

I always close all other apps and disable virus protection. I tried restarting, but it didn't resolve anything.

Thanks for the suggestion, though. Has this happened to anyone else?

The first thing that i would look (this is probably obvious so forgive me) at would be the wave tab in preferences. Make sure that the application is looking to your sound card and not the Microsoft Sound Mapper. I would also make sure that you have the latest drivers for both your video and sound card. Try setting the default location for recorded files to another directory besides the Sound Forge one. This is done on the preform tab in preferences. Other possible causes for this could be sound on the motherboard conflicting with your sound card. Or other devices having some IRQ conflicts with your sound card. Idealy you would want to have your sound card on it's own IRQ.

Hello,

I had this problem before...particularly with playback in Windows Media vs SF 4.5....I had traced it back to a sound card (Echo Gina 20-bit) driver, specifically a Direct Sound option (check Device Manager). For whatever reason, if direct sound is not enabled, playback/record is very choppy in SF but Windows Media playback is fine. Enabling direct sound would provide the opposite results. Hope this helps.
