Weird issues with VP10...

Hey,

So Ive been using Vegas Pro 10 for a bit now and just run into a few problems with my current project.

Whenever I open a project this specific project it stalls at 10% for about 20 sec. I wait it out and it opens normally. It contains mov files, png image and avchd footage from GH1.

Biggest problem is though when I try to render the project, it stalls at 91% and it doesn't seem to go on even if I wait. It's a 1h 20min project that takes 22h to render so I reaaaally don't want to try out many times to see if it still stalls at 91%...

Im running the latest Vegas Pro 10, Windows XP home 32-bit. I already rendered this project once to mpeg2 succesfully with VP8. Since that I've added the png image and text events to the project.

Also I must say Im having the same stalling problem with DVD architect 5.2. Whenever I try to preview the DVD it takes about 10-15sec to load the menu in the preview window.

Anyone out there noticed anything similar? Im asking you before I go the usual re-install VP10 to re-install everything routine...

Thanks!

Sami

PS. Also one veeery weird thing. When I try to copy paste events from VP10 to VP8 the VP8 just shuts down, exactly if I would press close program. No warnings or anything...

I guess this teaches me not to change from one program version to another mid edit...

really don't know much, but i didn't think 10 was recommended for xp?

that's quite a mixture on your tl. have you tried rendering out in sections then compiling them?

i would humbly suggest upgrading to win 7, 64bit. i'm running it and 64bit 10 (haven't even bothered loading 32 bit) and on the 4 projects i've completed so far (2 shorts, 2 X 1hr plus) i haven't missed a heartbeat, or lost any hair. (my tl is hdv, png, wav, mp3, graphics, etc.,)

btw. if your sys specs are upto date, then i think it might be time for some more umph in the cpu area

I would agree that the 32 bit side of your equation might be the problem. I'm running 64 bit Windows 7. Having some minor issues, but nothing like you are experiencing. 32 bit with HD formats seems to be very problematic. Lots of crashes, etc. Very...temperamental....
Not impossible to get running right, but not likely. My crashes vanished after moving to 64 bit on Windows 7. Not to guarantee yours will, but it was much better for me.

I'm running 10 on a xp 32 bit quad core with no problems.

Hi

Ok, I might upgrade to Win 7 but I dont want to do it in the middle of a project.

Funny thing was that when it hung at 91% and I had to force quit VP10 it saved the mpeg file! Very strange cause it usually always deletes the file. It's a 2.88 GB mpeg file (Im doing a DVD). And then I just rendered the last 10min of the progect to its own file.

At least I have the project rendered so my client can watch and approve.

Bring up your task manager to see how much memory you're using.

maybe you're maxing out.

I´ve noticed this phenomenon a few times now on my w7 64bit - the thing is that Vegas actually did not crash - it´s the render progress bar that freezes! I´ve had that about 4 times now with a 60min long HD project, and everytime the file was actually successfully rendered. I first thought Vegas had crashed, but upon minimizing and maximizing the window a couple of times it was back to normal. I´ve seen a few of these pseudo crashes in V10 recently, where minimizing and maximizing shaked V10 out of its coma.
Weird indeed.

I tried the render again and it stops at exactly the same point. Which is at 90% way through. When it reaches the 90% mark it resets the render time bar and says 0:00:00 elapsed.

It creates the mpeg2 file but it's missing the last 15min or so from the project. But it's really weird that it does create the files as if it had ended the render.

At the point where it stops the render theres nothing special there, not even a cut.

I already rendered this project with VP9 so if its a memory issue it must be that VP10 reacts differently then VP9.

How do I see if the memeory maxes out? Do I have to wait until it renders to 90% and then read the task manager?

I wish I hadn't changed to VP10 with this project :(

Mine was doing the same thing on Vista 32 bit, and two nights ago I upgraded to 7 and that problem went away still working out a few bugs and updating some drivers, but this stalling at 90% or 91% went away.
