hi,

I am a tech at a company and work with the producers in a radio studio. We use soundforge a lot to edit files, encode, etc. Sometimes when we have a file open for editing, random sound will bleed thru very loudly and distorted at a lower pitch. It's almost like the buffer is spouting out recent files in its memory because if we edit the files to understand what the clips are it's normally something that we've played back recently or are currently editing. We aren't able to reproduce the problem at will and we've deleted temp files and defraged the hdd has well. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

thanks

Well here's an obvious first thought, but are you sure that it's not RF interference being picked up by the sound card or speakers.

I had a similar situation recently, it drove me crazy, I tracked it down to a 20' unshielded speaker extension cable I bought at radio shack.

I got a shielded 6 footer & that solved my problem.

I'd try using headphones directly into the sound card to eliminate that possibility.

Good luck!

thanx for the suggestion. we tested that theory by getting the sound to duplicate then check the soundcard's mixer to see if the levels could tell us anything. we removed all audio cables from the card only leaving the and spdif connections - still no dice.
