Subject:Delay on playback in Sound Forge 10.0b

Hello,

I wonder if anyone can help with a problem I'm having with playback. Anytime I Press the PLAY button, playback occurs abot 0.5 seconds later. This doesn't happen with any other button/functon. If I press Record for example the response is instant.

My soundcard is a TASCAM US-144 Mk II and I'm using Windows XP 32 bit. I installed SF on another machine with a basic sound card and there is no delay on playback.

When I check Audio Advanced prperties I don't see an option to select ASIO drivers but it does say ASIO Clock Source : Hardware (44.100 kHz).

Any help woud be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,
Walt

My first inclination is that it's something wrong with the buffer settings on the Tascam. However, check in Options-->Preferences-->Audio-->Playback tab. At the bottom of your device routing window, there is a Playback buffering slider. Make sure that isn't set too high. I keep mine around 0.20 and don't experience any noticeable delay.

Like I said, you might check the settings on the Tascam to make sure there isn't some kind of latency setting that is amiss.

Thanks for the reply, Rob. That slider is 'ghosted out' so seemingly it can't be controlled from within Sound Forge. It appears to be set for 0.05 anyway.

In the TASCAM control panel, you select laency with a simple dropdown box with settings from lowest latency to highest latency. But no matter how I set this, there's the same delay. Very annoying and it only affects playback.

Thanks again.
