Vegas Obsolete

SMD wrote on 11/5/2010, 4:13 PM
Sony Vegas is useless to me. I'm an amateur consumer and definitely in the minority in that I won't entertain using illicit software for all the right reasons.

HOWEVER

Sony Creative Software have sold me a software package built around Apple's Quicktime. Less than two years later, this has been rendered useless by an upgrade to Quicktime (iPad user, no alternative but to use the latest version of QT) that Sony now choose not to support - at least not in version 8.

I'm only unhappy because apparently there is a fix in version 9 that Sony choose not to make available to me unless I pay even more money to upgrade.

The depreciation suffered in buying Sony Vegas 8 has been worse than that experienced in buying my last family car - I've lost 100% of my money on Sony's product in under 2 years and I'm not even able to 'drive' it at all now. If it's really not possible for SCS to make version 8 work then surely there should be a complimentary upgrade to the next available version that does? (They did choose to make the software reliant on QT afterall)

Given the circumstances, the cost of an upgrade to SCS must be minimal. The cost of NOT upgrading in light of the situation here could be incalculable to the Sony name...

Fail to do this, SCS, and you'll undermine the Sony name in the long-term; I (Like many others) have been a satisfied Sony customer for many years.

I await a response.

Hang on a minute, didn't the iPad appear AFTER Vegas8?
How is that Sony's fault?

Do not argue with an idiot. He will drag you down to his level and beat you with experience.

I was going to respond, but then I noticed that you already posted this complaint, it was discussed to death, and you never bothered to reply to anyone who contributed.

So, yeah. Never mind.

If you bought into the iPad hype, maybe you should go all the way and buy a MAC and edit with iMovie.

Vegas never has been and never will be built around QuickTime.

You already got a response from Sony in the last thread you started on this topic. Did you bother to read it? or download the patch the offered you?

There are lots of video producers who salivate at the thought of being able to sell also to 100 million iOS users.

S M Dawson, just use the free MPEG Streamclip to convert your Vegas 8 productions to a suitable iPad-friendly format (there are several choices).
