10.0a Recipe for instant crash.....

ChristoC wrote on 10/15/2010, 12:16 AM
- Start VegasPro10.0a (mine defaults to a new project, i.e. does not open last project)
- Set Project Properties Audio = 5.1 surround (I have this set by defult)
- Without adding any media, just View the Mixing Console.
- Add three Input Busses (i.e. Click "Insert Input Bus" icon 3 times.
- Now try to re-assign any Output button of the Master Channel to another output.

The above always causes instant crash, albeit with opportunity to report error. 100% repeatable. It actually happened on a much more complicated mixer, and I wasted half the day reducing the crashes to these seemingly simple circumstances.
I am starting to think V10.0a = 'alpha' = stage before 'beta'.

Anyone else get these crashes?

Later: same occurs if the Project Properties are set to Stereo.

I agree about the quality of the software, I get multiple crashes when dealing with adding and removing effects, however I can't replicate your bug.

I got no issue changing I/O on master but it crashed when selecting some sound card channel for one input bus at least one time. I also noticed that my FW 410 card is enumerated two times with different labels in the preferences Audio device tab.

I also got crashes inserting a FX chain to a track from an empty project.

It also turns that for me, these are not reproductible in a deterministic way.

SCS server gets the crash data, I hope the dev team will be able to fix the mixing console asap.

Edit: Now, same kind of test with IO assignements: Vegas frozen.

I can reproduce a crash when reordering any audio FX chain then playing the timeline. It also often crashes when removing FX from the chain then playing.

There are definitely some serious audio issues that I hope they fix real soon. Not cool.

For what it's worth, these crashes seem to only happen with the 64 bit version. I got frustrated and decided to install the 32 bit version and have had better luck so far.

It happens with the 32 bit version too. I can recreate this in three different studios here. Also, has anyone noticed that if you do an edit such as debreath a track while in playback the audio drops out for a second?

Sorry I should have mentioned my system is WinXP-ProSP3 / 32bit.

audio drops out, app freezes, this is ridiculous. SV9 didn`t have this problem. Adding a compressor to an audio track in 99% of the cases freezes the app for good. changing a plugin during playback drops audio/freezes app. now, when i open a project that has a (ONE) audio plugin launched (a compressor) it freezes SV after 1-2 clicks without even me trying to push PLAY!

i use W7 64bit and SV9 ran fine on this system...

and ofcourse i have set up a project in SV10 and i can`t finish it in SV9 because it won`t open SV10 projects...

Quick question. Does anyone know if the Sony support team read these forums and if so have they ever posted any kind of "We're working on it and it should be fixed by _____" or even "We're aware of the issue" message. We really need to get these audio problems fixed soon or we're going to have to start looking at other products. We switched to ver. 10 hoping it would cure the problems of the last version but only more and worse issues seem to have appeared.
ChristoC wrote on 10/22/2010, 6:47 PM
Yes it appears they do, from time to time e.g. see
http://www.sonycreativesoftware.com/forums/ShowMessage.asp?MessageID=731548&Replies=10

however this Forum is NOT the place to report difficulties and bugs; you must submit a support question by going to My Account | My Support, giving them as much detail as you can, including system specs; you can also upload files, screenshots etc there.. Quite obviously the more reports they get the more information they have to trace the problem, and the more seriosly they will treat it. Whingeing on the Forum just wastes everybody's time......

If bringing up these types of issues in the forums wastes your time, then don't read the thread.

Personally, I rely on these forums to validate issues that I am having with the software BEFORE I go running to Sony screaming "What did you do?".

I have a problem now with the NR plugin 2.0h and Vegas Pro 10.0a which I submitted to Sony over a month ago with no response. Consistently crashes the app. The problem has been reproduced by others in the forums.

Sometimes when Sony is not so forthcoming with a reply or a fix, others in the forums often provide me with workarounds to see me through projects until the issues are resolved.

SO KEEP ON POSTING THOSE DIFFICULTIES AND BUGS!

Response to Support ticket:

"Our Development team has been able to confirm this bug and are working to correct the problem for a future release of the software. I do not have access to future product release details. However, you can use Net Notify to stay up to date on product releases. Go to Options > Preferences and make sure there is a check the box that says "Use Net Notify to stay informed about Sony Media Software products".
On Behalf of our Development team, I would like to thank you for providing your files, workflow, and details in this incident."

SCS apparently does monitor these forums. Responding to an issue may be infrequent though.

Wasn't trying to whine and yes, I had already reported the error to Sony. I finally got a response yesterday. I was just curious if they read the forums also. Didn't mean to start anything. By the way. I had a very strange crash this morning. Fired up Vegas but I hadn't even opened a project. Was checking email a few minutes later and when I opened an MP3 from a client with Windows Media Player Vegas stopped working. It happened as soon as WMP opened and the machine blue screened when I closed it. Probably a coincidence but very weird. I sent another report to Sony.
