Not that i give any credence to the speculation, but i can think of two reasons this move wouldn't lead to MacVegas.
1) Apple's track record is to buy up competition to get rid of it, rather than integrate it.
2) If there was any sizable market for a Mac version, we would have already had it ages ago.
Add those together and it's most likely that Vegas would be canned so that it wasn't competition for existing Mac software in it's market.
It is speculation on speculation.
Vegas is a mote in Sony's eye, probably either turn the lights out or sell it off. Finding a buyer would be hard, for my money would be nice if it was Adobe but I don't see that happening.

I'm sure there's something to the speculation, but there are a few issues to consider:
Apple has an estimated $51B in cash, while SONY has $34B in cash. As takeovers go, Apple could buy SONY, but it would be a hostile takeover -- just thinki how sweet the pot would have to be for an agreed takeover to take place. Owing to national interests in Japan, I suspect SONY would take a poison pill approach rather than allow that to happen.
It's interesting, and for all their similarities, I don't actually see it happening.
not that it will, but if it did... kiss Vegas on PC goodbye; there's no way Apple will sell a product for PC. they'd shut down development immediately and support within two years. FCP (initially developed for PC & Mac) and Logic (24,000 registered PC users back in the day) are two examples that spring to mind.
and if Apple bought Sony it sure wouldn't be to get hold of Vegas. lol. made me smile tho :)

Where in the hell do you get that Sony has 7.2 trillion in revenue?
The symbol in front of the trillion figure is for Japanese Yen, not American dollars.
At the current exchange rate, $1 = 82 Yen.
Now do you see how Sony has 7.2 trillion in revenue?
When you look at the revenue of those two companies one should realise that for both of them their NLE business has less impact on the bottom line than office cleaning costs.
JJ,
maybe China hasn't figured out just yet that they don't need to buy the whole country, just an influential politician here and there... or maybe they have . . . hmmmm ... (wink)
Vegas has becomming a growing threat to Apple's Final Cut Pro business. I believe that Apple will try to buy Sony so that they can finally end Vegas developement and leave FCP with less competition. If you cant beat 'em,..buy them out and disolve them.
I remember when Apple bought Logic Audio, it was a cross platform product. Apple stopped dev. on the PC side, causing many of us to have to purchase new software. I think Apple offered us a very generous $200 off of a new Mac. How kind. I loved Logic audio and new it very well. From that day on I refuse to purchase an apple product of any kind Is that enough whinnning? :)
Even if Apple canned Vegas in some imaginary takeover that would still leave Adobe on PC so many PC users will look for a PC alternative before paying thousands for a whole new Apple system. I don't think that an Apple take over strategy would be focused on the canning of Vegas. Many people use Macs for video editing already.
China is the owner of most of the extremely large US debt portfolio so in a sense they already control the dollar.
Market cap is more "noise" than any thing is else, its like Amazon stock in the 90's, extremely overvalued but survived by marketing spin.
Sony is too massive of a manufacturing and product development corp for Apple to "managed" smoothly without losing control. Steve runs Apple like a prison system in a 3nd world country. Steve acquiring the gaming systems and game development from Sony or creating a partnership for gaming..... work put him in a direct "war" with MS and Nintendo in gaming and gaming networks worldwide. Since Apple has been building big data centers, this could be a good fit with a strong customer foothold. Steve wouldn't mind putting it to MS over gaming I have heard. But its all "noise" for now. He be smarter to buy B&N for publishing easy access and solidify the academic college market and then big network games......
That is why I posted. Sony is too massive to be taken over. Looking at over all revenue Sony beats Apple. Sony 77 Billion to Apple 42 Billion. Now the profits goes to Apple. This is last year revenue!!!
