When you guys record audio do you use a pre amp? Or do you just connect the Mic directly into the PC? Either way, How is the sound quality?

Depends (as Bob Dole says)--there are crappy little hi-z mikes with sub-mini plugs that will record straight in the mic hole. But to do it right, get a good mike, maybe even a phantom-powered pro mike, and run it into a mixer, then into the LINE input of your computer's board. Better is to screw the OEM board and buy a PCI audio interface card. Avoid USB interfaces--SF techs have told me they breed latency and other problems because of USB's limited bandwidth and response time.
