Subject:levels of R vs. L channel

OK, there HAS to be a way to do this . . . .
I sometimes get recordings where the levels in the two channels are not equal. (L vs. R) I've looked for a one-step way to equalize the levels (normalization, channel mixer?) but haven't found it. I can always do it manually, but it seems like such a basic function, I think I must just be overlooking it.

Any ideas out there?

I think that unless you use some kind of outboard mixer you are stuck with the crude incerments that software/soundcard mixers provide.

I simply adjust the levels after I get the music into the computer, usually at 24 or 32-bit si I don't lose resolution.
