basic how to add subtitles?

I have no idea how to add subtitles in dvd architect 4.
I'm new to the software but I've been getting the hang of it... and at this point I'm baffled. I looked around the internet and in the software booklet and couldn't find out how to do this. I just see topics about more complex things dealing with subtitles but nothing about the basic procedure of simply adding a subtitle.

Someone please help me. Point me to a resource for this information or please tell me how.

If you're looking in the quick start guide, you're not going to find much info. However, the full manual has plenty of guidance on adding subtitles. If you bought DVDA on disc, there is a PDF manual on there.Otherwise you can download it from that link.

In the project overview window, double-click on the video that you want to add subtitles to. Then down in the Timeline view, click on the + and select Insert Subtitle Track. From there it's pretty easy to add what you need, editing text as needed.

However, I'm not sure at this point how to configure a subtitle track to actually show up on a DVD, or how to add a menu button that will add the subtitles to everything. If anyone can answer that, I'd appreciate it.

Once you've added the subtitle track and put in your text, there's nothing needed to "configure" them to show up. Pop the disc in your player and use your player remote's Subtitle button to switch between any subtitle tracks. If that doesn't work, something's gone wrong -- maybe just with the player itself.

To have a menu button that turns subtitles on or off, select a menu button and go to the Button Properties window. On the Action tab, you'll see the option to set a subtitle track.

As for the button's primary action, I like to have it link either to a previous menu, to the intended video, or even back to the current menu, though it's good to give the viewer some indication that some action was taken. They may be confused if they just see the exact same menu.

If you need more help, the manual / online help has a section titled Adding a Setup Menu which addresses this as well as buttons for turning on alternate audio tracks.

Thank you both a lot... however I'm still stuck.
I can't locate the "+" button. It seems to be missing, though I'm not certain of that.
I did download the correct manual for DVD Architect Studio 4, which I'm using.

here's a screenshot I just took of what I'm working with:

please help me a bit more ^_^

edit: so I'm definitely missing the Insert Track button, and I don't know how to get it. >_<

I've just tried to check without luck, but are you sure that the Studio Version of DVDArchitect can do subtitles? The fact that there is no "+" in the top left corner of the Timeline in your screenshot suggests not.

Yeah, like Peter, I tried to check for you and am having only bad luck. I own DVDA Studio 4.5 which has the same setup as DVDA Pro in this regard. The manual for DVDA Studio 4.0 implies that it supports subtitles -- I can find references to formatting them but nothing about adding them.

So first I downloaded DVDA Studio 4.0, but can't run it without a serial number. So I downloaded the trial version, which tells me I need Windows 2000 Service Pack 3 (I'm using Vista) to run it. What??

That said, Sony has been known to re-used content from the Pro manuals for Studio products. It's possible that they accidentally left in references to subtitles even though DVDA Studio 4.0 doesn't support them. I honestly can't tell either way.

Sorry I couldn't be more help.

thanks very much, help both of you : )

I think it's correct to assume that DVD Architect Studio 4.0 doesn't have subtitling and multiple audio and video track options.
