That's the uncompressed data size.
Since DVDs consist of MPEG-2 video, that is the preferred format to give it.
Then the file size will make more sense.
I suggest you do the render in Vegas, where you will have more control.

Hm, actually, I suspect we're looking at a video file that is way too long too be on one DVD. Given how compressed MP4s generally are and the relatively low bitrate usually used for them, I'm guessing this is a whole lot of video for you to reach a 2.7GB MP4. DVD Architect is then taking that MP4 and re-encoding it (as it should) to MPEG-2 at a DVD compliant bitrate (by default, 8Mbps).

How long is this video? Generally speaking, you should expect to get no more than 2 hours on a DVD. You can get more, but not at anywhere near 8Mbps.
