Sound Forge Pro 10.0a running on Windows 7 home premium. This look like a bug, one I have never seen before. When saving an audio file, ".tiff" is added to the file extension each time I change any file parameter. If change it to save as a .wav, it appends .tiff to the end, if I then change it to save as mov, it adds .tiff again, resulting in .tiff.tiff.mov. If I change directory, it also adds .tiff. soundforge 10 is the only program that exhibits this behavior. I have tried 10.0 and 10.0a with the same result. I tried downgrading to 9.0 but my serial number does not work on previous versions. I have tried reinstalling, with no change. I searched google and the knowledge base, did not find anything on the subject. I am reluctant to do a "clean install" because that is exactly what I did for Vegas Movie Studiu HD just a few days ago. I have tried compatibility mode, with no change. Also, I noticed one peculiarity with this potential bug: .wav files are saved with .tiff at the end. other file formats are saved as .tff with the correct destination format at the end. Some extensions like .mp3 dont change the extension unless I change to other formats first. When I close and re-open soundforge, the .tiff file that was saved opens as if it were a .wav file. This is previously unreported, afaik. It is also your first post, so you may want to check your "Save As" properties in SF, as well as your file associations in Windows. It may also be helpful to post your Quicktime version, since SF uses that lib to open and save .tiff files. Message last edited on3/14/2010 7:55:02 PM bymusicvid10. |

Hello and thanks for the fast reply. when you say "save as" properties, I assume you mean the dialog box that appears when you click "save as" or the save button with a question mark. That is exactly where the problem is is showing up. If I don't use "save as," everything is fine. "Save" works perfectly. Changing file format or destination folder screws things up, appending .tiff everytime I make a change. .tiff.tiff.tiff.tiff.tiff.rm for example. As for Quicktime, I don't like the program, and after your post, I completely removed it from my computer. I only use Soundforge for audio so I don't need it. I would never save an audio file as a .mov and especially not a .tiff. With our without Quicktime, Soundforge is not "saving as" correctly. Message last edited on3/14/2010 9:13:37 PM byBob3Rocks. |

.tiff is Tagged Image File Format for storing graphics images. Do you have a graphics editing program like Photoshop on your computer? In the 'save as' window - you have options as to the file format you want to save the file in. Make your choice there. Other possibility: you have a virus. Jack |

Jack, thanks for the reply. I fail to see your point regarding photo editing software. Are you suggesting the "save as" function in Gimp (I dont have photoshop) is somehow conflicting with Soundforge? Have you ever seen photoshop name a file "something.tiff.tiff.tiff.tiff.tiff.tiff.jpeg"? I don't get it. You do have a point about the possibility of a virus, though. It does seem like a virus to me, although there are no other symptoms. I have discovered there is something wrong with my windows installation. I will be re-installing Windows and hopefully that will be the fix for this issue. Message last edited on3/16/2010 10:57:04 AM byBob3Rocks. |

I have EXACTLY the same issue. And I'm 100% positive I don't have a virus because if have Vers. 9.0 installed on same computer.... no Save As issues there. Why is this post being ignored? This is a real bug. Why don't you guys try simulating this issue? Yes, I have Adobe products installed, BUT SO WHAT? If this were a problem with my computer, then I'd see the same thing with 9.0 wouldn't I?? Come on, don't be lame and blame this on a virus, simulate it on a Win 7 64 bit machine and get back to us !! Unless, of course you want me to switch software after all these years? No problem if that's the case, but it WILL get ugly. |

Who are you suggesting do the simulations? Other users who have Windows 7 64 bit installations aren't reporting the problem, so it's unlikely that many folks see the same issue. Users who aren't running that version aren't going to shell out a ton of money just to see if they can duplicate it. Personally, i probably won't have either a 64 bit computer or a version of Windows newer than XP for a couple more years. |

I had recently deleted vers. 9.0 because I trusted 10.0. So bottom line is, I reinstalled 9.0 and all is well. I still think you guys should acknowledge and fix the bug or offer a refund for 10.0 users. |

I'm running SF 10.0 on Windows 7 64. I have never come across the problem described here. The OP mentioned that he found something wrong with his Windows installation... Nobody else has reported this problem and I've never seen it. I'd be looking elsewhere for the answer. If you're sure it's a bug, definitely contact Sony Support, as nobody here has any power to do anything. Rob. |

My sincere apologies guys. I definitely did not know that this was not a Sony Forum. I came to it from Sony's site, so I assumed it was a Sony run entity. And I shall contact Sony about this. I believe the issue is whether Adobe products, like Photoshop are installed as well. Thanks again. |
