Subject:How do I export a portion of the timeline to a new

I have a live recording that I brought into Sound Forge 9. I created markers and regions identifying iondifidual songs. I can select the region and then do a "save as" and it saves the intire recording with all of the songs, not just the region I selected.

How do I export a portion of the timeline based on a selection?

Copy and Paste, just as in any Windows application.

Ctrl+C, Ctrl+N, Ctrl+V takes less than two seconds,

-- or even better --

Ctrl+C, Ctrl+E takes less than one second.

Paste into what?

My timeline is in .WAV format and I want to export it as separate .mp3 files.

I use plenty of Windows applications with a timeline and I have NEVER had to copy a segment and past it (somewhere else) in order to export that segment. So this is NOT like every other windows application.

Regardless, I can copy segment by segment, but where do I paste them? Are you saying to paste them Into a windows folder? I could care less how long it takes (within reason) as long as it is easy to do.

CTRL+E pastes into a new file window. However, if you have regions, just use Tools>Extract Regions. Highlight everything you want to extract and then fill the rest of the information in and hit Extract.

Got it for single Regions, cntrl+C then cntrl+E, then cntrl+S easy.

Now I already went through one by one and saved everything before I saw your post about the tools extract regions. That is really sounds sweet! It would have made much easier work of the task. I tried it after the fact and it is simple as pie and FAST. Next time I will use this.

Thank you for posting!

"I use plenty of Windows applications with a timeline and I have NEVER had to copy a segment and past it (somewhere else) in order to export that segment. So this is NOT like every other windows application."

I meant it is just like Photoshop, MS Word, Excel, Outlook, Explorer, and a multitude of other applications where pasting a selection to a new window and saving is the norm.
Don't take offense, but by mentioning the Ctrl+C, N, V sequence, I thought we'd start with something that was familiar to most Windows users; sorry I was off the mark.

The Extract Regions command works also, as you have found. Good luck.

Note that Extract Regions will only save as .wav. If you want .mp3 you'll still have to do another step. However, once you've got the sections in separate .wav files you can use the batch converter script to convert them all to .mp3.
