Subject:ACID vs. SoundForge, ProTools, Cubase, etc.

I've done a lot of recording starting back in 2000 with a DPS-16 Akai "hard disk recorder" and since 2008 ACID. I find now-a-days that I like to use both in conjunction with each other recording my rhythm tracks with the DPS-16 and then flying them into ACID via CDs made from the audio files. Then I can add any solo instruments, redo parts if I choose and do my vocal work in ACID using my AKG-4000 microphones through my PreSonus Firebox which makes things a lot easier to edit and make my final mixes. My question is this. Is my final product made in ACID as good sonically as I could make using Sound Forge, ProTools, Cubase or any of the other sophisticated DAW / recording software out there? |

When you say 'final product', do you mean mastered? If so, then your answer is no. Sound Forge, in my opinion, would give you the better 'final product'. Ultimately, this would depend on your approach to mastering, which I assume you mean, when you use the word sonically. |

What raskiefilm said. There are all kinds of techniques and whatnot for mastering (like using Sound Forge **in addition to** ACID Pro for sweetening your projects, for example). Iacobus |

If you mean technical sound quallity, then all can do better than the CD stage limitation. One would be hard-pressed to spot a 'sound quality' difference in any major DAW. However the tools you mention have very different functionality. SF is an audio editor, not a DAW, and may have a better workflow for a final mastering stage, but is impossible to mix on meaningfully ! geoff |

Mastering in acid vs soundforge just my 2 cents. Nowadays, I would rather master in my daw. As soon as you throw L2 and/or inflator on your master bus, add 3 to 4 db of gain, your mix shifts. Its easier to tame a hi hat or snare than to de ess the whole mix. just my opinion. |

If a guy has this capability to recording, mix, and master in one app (as well as edit within ACID using Sound Forge), the results are as good as it gets within this platform. |
