I was working on a song and used the function to spilt at cursor of an audio clip. I noticed that it did not split at the measure line or on the 1 of the measure. The audio phrase ended up shifted by a count or 2. I am on XP Home and using Acid 7.0c. I decided to update to Acid 7.0e thinking that may fix the problem. Ran into the issue of needing to install Microsoft Visual C++ 2005 Redistributable. Keep getting the message that it needed the file vcredist.msi. to do the installation. It also mentioned something about it being a network resource that is not available. Looked in add remove programs and notice that the Microsoft Visual C++ 2005 was installed. Also was install was Microsoft Visual C++ 2008. Now Acid 7.0c will not launch and even my Sound Forge 9 will not launch. I am out of business with all my Sony Software. Now tried to reinstall Acid and Sound Forge and get the issue of needing the vredist.msi for the Visual C++2005. Did a file search for the vredist.msi and it is not on my computer. Found an article on the Sony Knowledgebase about removing the Visual C++ using add remove programs, the 2008 versions successfully removed but I cannot get the Visual C++ 2005 Redistributable to remove, keeps giving message that it cannot locate the vcredist.msi. Please Help!!! |

Did you try picking up and installing Visual C++ 2005 (and then uninstalling it after restarting)? The update to ACID Pro can act as a full version. (i.e., You don't need to install your retail copy and then patch it using the update. Just install the update and keep your serial key handy.) Iacobus |

I tried to install the Visual C++ 2005 from the link that you provided and it did not install. Got the same response that was discribed in my original post. Thanks for the suggestion. |

Sounds like something got borked in the process. There's an interesting thread I found here but your results may vary. Not sure what else to suggest other than a brute force method like reformatting. |

mD, I looked at your link. The bottom line was to use the windows installer cleanup utility. I could not find it on the Microsoft website. They had manual instructions of using commands already in windows and I tried those, but did not have any success. Looks like I may have to back up my files, reformat the disk, and reload all of my software and files. Since I may have to reformat the hard drive, is it worth upgrading to Windows 7? I may have to finish my project using another digital audio software that I have, because I was trying to get a demo done to send off. I also have an dedicated hard disk recorder that an relative loan for me to try out. |

The consensus for Windows 7 is that it's vastly improved over Vista (at least performance-wise). If you're still using XP, definitely consider it. |

Since I had not resolved this problem, I began efforts to back up my files and purchased a new hard drive to installed and reload windows xp, programs, and data. Could not sleep one night and decided to do a Google search on file vcredist.msi. There were many hits and I pick the following link: http://www.forumtopics.com/busobj/viewtopic.php?p=732437. Since I had performed a backup of my files and purchased a new drive to install, I was more easily ready to try anything found on the web. One poster pointed to the Microsoft down load site for the Visual C++ Redistributable and suggested to perform the following command: “/C /T:<fullpathtofolder>” . This command was to extract the vcrestist.msi and the vcredist.cab from the down loaded file vcredist_x86.exe from microsoft . I ran the command and look for the files to be extracted but could not find them when performing the search. Then another poster suggested to use winzip to extract the files from vcredist_x86.exe downloaded from Microsoft. I tried that and the file vcredi~1.exe was extracted. For some reason I decided to click on the file and it appeared to perform an install and ran without any errors. Then I tried to install Acid Pro 7.0e and it completely installed without any issues. Fantastic, now Acid Pro 7.0e is running and also my Sound Forge 9 works and also my Sonar 8.5 works. Not sure what the first solution mentioned above did but the second solution, with some improvising, seem too worked. The pitfalls of computer based DAWs. |
