Subject:Music Studio 8 crashes adding MID file to timeline

I'm a newbie user of Music Studio. Wanted this application so I could edit MIDI (never done this before).

I drag *.MID (midi) file onto brand new track and Music Studio crashes every time. Before dragging, I can "play" the *.MID from explorer...but crash if I try to add it to project. I can add MP3 no problem....just *.MID file has this problem.

I suspect my system/soundcard may not be configured correctly but not sure what to do. Soundcard works (albeit with beta drivers - another Win 7 issue with creative cards). Perhaps MIDI is not fully functional with the drivers but this is where my knowledge stops.

Help! If we think it's soundcard I may just replace this one (it's been a PITA with WIN 7 64bit) and welcome recommendation. BUT i'd like to rule out simple fix in Music Studio 8 first.

I have been using ACID Music Studio 7 for several years. They had the same problem with it until 2009. I bought ACID Music Studio 8.0 build 178 in 2010. I have the same problem with ACID Music Studio 8.0 build 178 that you have. I have told Sony Creative Software about this problem but they are not listening. If you try to drag and drop a Sony midi file loop, 1 track, into the timeline, it will work. If you notice in the Sample Songs, many midi loop files are used. These midi loop files are 1 track. The program will not accept a multi-track midi file at this time. Here's how you can add your own multi-track midi file to the timeline. In a new project, you can add a multi-track midi file, one of your own, to the time line by using the menu bar at the top: click file and then open and navigate to the midi file you want to open and highlight it and click open. It should then open right up in the timeline. It does on mine. If you can, if you already have it, I suggest using ACID Music Studio 7.0a build 157 until they get Music Studio 8 fixed. Everything in ACID Music Studio 7.0a build 157 works the way it is supposed to work.

Thanks again for the suggestion...it worked!! (FILE>>OPEN>> then select MIDI file). I'm glad to know I wasn't the only one experiencing this....I thought it might just be my soundcard. Surprised I didn't find more reports of it.

For kicks I exported as MIDI and then tried the drag-drop method on the exported MIDI...MS8 still crashes.

As I'm a first time user of Music Studio 8 (never used any other version) I don't think I will be able to get MS7. But I'll contact Sony Support and see if they're working on an update.
