It says to make sure users have access to the temporary directory. I gave them all access and I still get the error, any idea what I can do?

Thanks,

On the 2000 kernel, most software can only be installed with ADMINISTRATOR rights. Log in as Administrator and try again. That should do it.

You might want to consider the following.  ...Win98...  There is almost no real way around it any more (or at least until Microsoft will understands that the public does not like them to work out their bugs on us!). Compatibility issues have been crazy on 2000 and from my experience 98 is as solid as a rock.  This is the only way I ever recommend for fellow believers in the PC to go.  I know that recommending this may cause a head ache being that perhaps you might have to reformat the HD and reload the software. Still, compare the two, LOTS of bugs or a small pain in the butt and a working system.

This same philosophy flows along the truth of my life.

It is better to tell a truth that hurts and then heals, rather, to tell a lie the comforts and then kills!!

I hope this helps...

Wow, didn't know we had to get all philosophical...Lol. I have to agree, I recently tried installing my audio apps on a win2k machine and I did not see all the advantages that everyone boosted about. One thing I can say is when a program freezes up on win2k, the Cntrl-alt-del "end task" actually does work......but programs still do freeze up. I still prefer the user friendliness of win98 for now. I have heard great things about windows XP......but then again I heard great things about win2k when it was first developed. I suppose the best thing about win2k is not having the file size limitation which would be more important doing video editing. Well this is turning into a Windows discussion now. I can say I did not have the original problem installing SF 4.5 on Win2k, I don't think I logged in under "administrator", but my login name does have administrator priveledges.

Sometimes administrator privs are not enough. If you have a shortcut to a program you can "shift right click" and choose run as and login as administrator.

I have not tried to run SF 4.5 as a network app but can run it locally without any problems, as well as SF5.x, CD-architect, Acid 3.0 and 4 different cd burning software. I have not found any fairly new apps that would not run on win2000. For win2000 to run best you need a vary fast processor and lots of ram. I have an AMD 1Ghz with 512 of ram.

Your mileage may vary.
