I have a questions reguarding 24 and 16 bit recording. I currently own a Delta-66 a/d converter which is a 24 bit a/d converter. I purchased this in order to give better clarity to vinyl records and depth to my mixes. Is the a/d converter turning that analog information into 24 bit when I record into soundforge 5? Or do I have to tell Soundforge to record at 24 bit @ 44.1 Khz? Could anyone suggest the proper sampling rate and frequency? I understand that 16 bit @ 44.1 Khz is the standard audio CD's but I'm attempting to get the highest resolution possible with the equipment that I have. ANY suggestions or help would be very much appriciated. Thank you. |

I generally record at the highest sample rate and bit depth possible. Before burning the CD, I resample and dither to the correct CD values. I've been told this gives a little better audio quality that recording everything at 44, 16 bit. I could be going through unnessecary steps, so anyone who knoes for sure, please chime in... When you press the record button in Sound Forge, a new window pops up. At the top of this window, you will see the sample rate and bit rate, which I believe defaults to 16-bit, 44,100Hz. You can change this by clicking on the "New" button. Ted |
