(By default, when you add a MIDI track it's routed to the default DLS Soft Synth.) -Ensure that there is actual MIDI data being recorded. (By default, MIDI input is set to Auto (which means that the presently selected track is chosen for input) and its channel is set to All.) MIDI data is represented as blocks on the timeline. Be sure that if you select a specific MIDI channel and MIDI controller for input that your controller is set to transmit on that channel. (I've done this a countless number of times.)
