Legacy Vegas versions on Window 7

Not only can it be done, but they can all run at the same time.

Sonic Foundry Vegas Video 3.0
Sony Vegas 4.0
Sony Vegas 5.0
Sony Vegas 6.0
Sony Vegas 7.0
Sony Vegas 8.1 64-bit
Sony Vegas 9.0 64-bit

Vegas 4.0 through 6.0
==================
Vegas 6.0 and older (not sure about 3.0 and prior) will ask to install Microsoft .NET Framework 1.1, stop and exit.

DO THIS BEFORE INSTALLING VEGAS:

The trick is getting .NET Framework 1.1 installed. It won't install properly from the stock Microsoft download. Follow the instructions below very carefully and it will install (even though it will report an error or two):

Step 5 above is critical. Make sure you open the command prompt as Administrator. Click on the link in step 5 if you don't know how to do this.

Now install Vegas -- ANOTHER CRITICAL STEP is to launch the Vegas installation with Administrative privilege!!! Right-click on the install file and select "Run as Administrator".

I'm not saying everything will work perfectly, but you should be able to get it to run. I haven't experimented with Firewire yet on these legacy versions--and I probably won't bother.

I am running Vegas Pro 6, Sound Forge Pro 7, and DVD Architect 3 on Windows Vista Home Premium. I have the upgrade disks for Windows 7 Home Premium but I don't want to install it until I know my installed Sony software will work with it.

Your post says they all will work on Windows 7, but you don't specify which edition - Pro with XP mode, Home Premium, or both. Can you be more specific?

I was planning to upgrade to Windows 7 32-bit, for what it's worth.

Thanks!

As you can see from the screen capture, all versions of Vegas are running under Windows 7. The two 64-bit versions of Vegas that I mention should tip you off that I am running a 64 bit machine.

To clarify further: "XP Mode" is not a "mode", it is an actual copy of Windows XP running in a virtual environment. Thus, if a program runs under XP Mode I would certainly not consider that Windows 7.

I did not speak to the Win7 edition nor "bitness" as I do not perceive it to be relevant. As I wrote, the obstacle was only the installation of the .NET 1.1 Framework. Since you ask, I am running Win7 x64 Ultimate.
