Subject:Error Message during Soundforge Lockup

Yesterday, while editing a file, my computer locked up. After I got it restarted, I went back to Soundforge (XP 5.0). After re-opening the file and trying to play it, I got an error message that said "Microsoft Windows Music Mapper in use by another program. Close that program and try again." What is the Music Mapper and how do I find out what other program is using it? This is really confusing, and I could use some help. Thanks in advance.

Actually, you probably just need to configure Forge's preferences for sound card. In Forge, go to Options -> Prefs -> Wave tab and choose your sound card for default playback and record devices; not Microsoft Sound Mapper. You might also make sure that your Multimedia control panel is similarly configured. This is done by going to Start -> Settings -> Control Panel -> Multimedia (or Sounds and Multimeida in Me and 2K) -> Audio tab. Set both record and playback devices to your soundcard and not to Microsoft Sound Mapper.
