No one will know until there is an announcement from Sony.
ushere wrote on 8/13/2010, 7:13 PM
according to the chicken innards i cast yesterday, it will be coming soon since the fit-out of scs's new building cost more than they thought......
musicvid10 wrote on 8/13/2010, 7:34 PM
ushere, I'm beginning to appreciate you more and more . . .
ushere wrote on 8/13/2010, 11:01 PM
musvid, please, please tell my wife that time and money spent with / on vegas ISN'T the same as having a mistress.....
musicvid10 wrote on 8/13/2010, 11:57 PM
Oh, but it is the same -- keeps both hands busy late into the night . . .

Just tell her it's Vegas X (say it quickly)

I hear the new version is going to come with an Allen key which gets you into the Ikea warehouse.
BrianAK wrote on 8/14/2010, 5:39 AM
I heard V10 has a Final Cut plug-in.
Steven Myers wrote on 8/14/2010, 7:19 AM
It is going to include a stand-alone version of the revolutionary SCS app called Ideas In A Box.
bdg wrote on 8/14/2010, 9:35 AM
It would be real nice if it included support for SMPTE
musicvid10 wrote on 8/14/2010, 9:43 AM
SMPTE is a clearing house for engineering standards for MP and Television professionals.

Tell us which standard(s) or practice(s) you are thinking of.

Alls I want to do is have the capability to edit media that has a time code track on one of the audio channels that was generated by a camera.

Bill, I think what you're looking for is full BWF support and this feature has been asked for several times in the past few years.
Like a lot of requested features, we're still waiting :-(

Thanks for the reply rs170a.
Yes, BWF sounds about right.

It's been roughly 40 years since I recorded sync stuff.
It was easy back then: fire the sound to the camera and record to optical or stripe.

musicvid10 wrote on 8/14/2010, 10:21 AM
Bill, thanks for clarifying. Honestly, I thought you were talking about REC 709->SMPTE C filtering, given some very recent forum discussions.

Since the BWF can of worms has already been opened, I think all we can do is wait and see.

As I've mentioned before, the portable recorder market is behind in this area too. Although many of them will now record compliant BWF, very few will ingest freerun T/C sync from a professional camera. The Tascam HDP2 is one exception <$1,000. I could have used something like this going back several years.

In the meantime, Pluraleyes is our forever best friend. Works extremely well with the Zoom H4n.

Definitely a work in progress.

I am right (days away) from buying VP 9.0. Now I am wondering if I should wait. *sigh*.
Why can't SCS just disclose a release date? I don't think it's like a matter of national security or anything. sheesh.

peace

I don't think it's like a matter of national security or anything. sheesh.

SCS doesn't want anyone to know that they're on the verge of completing a deal to buy out and shut down Apple, Adobe & Avid, leaving Vegas as the one and only NLE :-)

musicvid10 wrote on 8/14/2010, 3:39 PM
Actually, Apple and Avid are paying Sony to take over their products. Adobe is the only holdout . . .
rmack350 wrote on 8/14/2010, 8:09 PM
Anyway, I think if you're close to making a purchase I'd wait to see if they announcing anything prior to or during IBC, Sept 10th-14th.

Hi musicvid, must admit I thought you were being a bit unkind, fortunately I bit my tongue. (I must be getting old:)
Let's hope V10 has BWF, must admit I was astonished to find out Vegas didn't support sync already. I have had Vegas for many years and done a ton of (private) work with it. It's a very nice DAW.

Now looking to get work back in the film industry. I can already do surround but must get a shotgun and a couple of lapel mics. Suppose I have to get a more portable recorder as well. (Currently have a MOTU Traveller feeding a MacBook Pro - definitely NOT portable with that cheesy Firewire connection plus having to keep the notebook lid open).
Pluraleyes seems like it might work but the difficulty would be convincing other (non-audio) people that.

Much easier to say "I have Vegas 10 and sync is no problem" :D
musicvid10 wrote on 8/16/2010, 1:37 PM
My apology if my response seemed insensitive.
Sometimes I post off the top of my head and edit after a second look.
If this forum had a "Preview" function like phpbb it wouldn't happen as much.

"Pluraleyes seems like it might work but the difficulty would be convincing other (non-audio) people that.

Pluraleyes was actually first released for Final Cut Pro.
Same basic issue in either editor (either the audio was synced with a wire or not).

In all fairness, Vegas' BWF import function is pretty good. It seems to do what one expects, save for the problem posted two links down.
I had linked to the Sound Forge discussion above instead of the Pro Audio thread I had intended:

And here's another thread:

All the best, and let's keep our fingers crossed.

"Why can't SCS just disclose a release date?"

Well, if I were in the business of selling software, announcing a release date would kill my cashflow for a while.
kkolbo wrote on 8/16/2010, 5:35 PM
Also think about all the complaints that folks have saying that the releases still need bugs worked out. If you release a date a ways in advance and then you cannot make the date or cannot get the features all ready by the release date, even more people are unhappy and complain.

They will announce when they are ready. Can't we just let them work?
