can anybody help me out? :

i've got sony acid pro 5 and i can't use my VST plug ins. it works on my other computer but i need it on my new computer, it's windows 7. so i know the plug in .dll 's work, but for some reason, on this computer, acid can't find the plug ins.

i go options -> preferences -> VST effects, and i'm supposed to choose my search folder, the one that has the .dll's in it right? but the i choose the folder and it thinks nothing's there. so i can't use the effects.

right now i'm just trying to get some better reverb, so the plugins that won't show up are oldskoolverb, empire 2, and both the SIR reverbs.

any tips? how do i get the effects to show up?

Do the default Sony plug-ins work?

ACID Pro 5 was way before Windows 7's time (and even Vista if I recall). As such, they're different animals compared to other OS's like Windows XP. (Translation: Older apps might not play so well on newer OS's.)

ya i get that. the default ones are working. but i don't really like the reverb.

so i would probably just have to get the new ACID software?

i'm trying again right now. and when i opened it, it says "Scanning for audio plug-ins..." but it doesn't stop. it probably will just keep going forever.

in the meantime i've been using my old computer, but when i have more than a dozen tracks the playback is really laggy, so i have to mute half the instruments to even play it. is there any way i could fix that?

AP5 on Windows 7 - any variant - is not supported, but others have had some success.

Have you tried marking AP5 as run as admin or run as if under WinXP?

Did you change the search path for VSTs?

Try restarting ACID while holding down the Shift+CTRL keys. This will reset ACID to defaults.

Where exactly are you telling ACID to look for plug-ins? It is typical for all VST and VSTis to be located in a single folder on your machine. Pointing ACID to some product specific folder may not actually provide ACID with access to the dll it requires. This is typically

c:\program files(x86)\VSTplugins

However, the plug-in installer or another VST capable host could have changed this.

DONT tell ACID to search at C:\ or any other system root. Only point it to the directory where VST and VSTis are installed!!!!

Have you tried running the ACID Pro 7 demo to see if that is able to find your VST's? If it is then it's not a problem with your system and probably ACID 5 isn't compatible with Win 7.
