help organizing files

As I'm sure you do I have many drives loaded with many types of files on different drives. Is there software that will help me organize my drives? It is almost impossible to find files without a lot of frustration. Yes I know I should have a system but up until this point I don't. Not sure I want software that will automatically put like files in a folder, I don't want the video file to be separated from the rendered audio (at least I don't think so) Is there something that will scan the the drives then allow me to search and have all of the file types appear in a folder, or a virtual folder?

Thanks - Jim

Another vote for "WhereIsIt?"

Of course you also need to devise a logical drive naming scheme and physically label the drives. I bought a Bother P-touch labeller, money very well spent.
