Not a totally free solution, but I use DebugMode Frameserver from the Vegas timeline to ON2 Flix Pro.
FS is the free part..

Super works great once you wrap your head around the interface. It will encode h264/FLV which most encoders won't, but not VP8 yet.

I think ON2 is now Google, I don't think you can purchase it, but Google will continue to develop it.

I actually rendered the video to Mp4, should I convert the video to FLV from Mp4 or is it better to convert from AVI?

A single render is always better than two, assuming the original can be imported.

Thats too bad ON2 is no longer available, it's certainly the best.

The no registration version will probably leak from somebody soon. That's probably Googles intent by providing an open version.
