Unfortunately this cannot be done in Sound Forge 5.0.

One way to convert mid files to wav files is with Winamp, available at http://www.winamp.com/ It has the ability to write wav files while playing other file types. It's ability to do so depends upon having the proper plug-ins installed, including one to play midi files. Check the web site thoroughly for information and plug-ins. Another way is to install a perfectly legal interface called Total Recorder. Total Recorder can "redirect" music played on your PC to wave files. It is available at http://www.highcriteria.com/ It is NOT free however.

The winamp method, however, relies on your internal MIDI synthesizer which may or may not be very good. If you have an external synth (Roland, Yamaha, Casio, etc...), hook it to the line in, set up Sound Forge to record, and play back the MIDI data to your synth. That's the simplest way to do it, as far as I know.
