SF 4.5 has, under "Options", midi input sync/trigger, output sync, MIDI triggers, etc. When I attempt to open a MIDI file, it says "unsupported file format"?? Will SF open MIDI files, or do they have to be converted to WAV before SF will open them? |

Midi sync is totally different than trying to open a midi file. First of all NO, Sound Forge will not open a midi file. Alls a midi file is, is data of a keyboard performance that has been recorded. The best analogy of this, is to think of a midi file as an old piano player roll. The piano player roll tells the piano what notes to play at what time. Midi files are exactly the same way, there is NO audio present in a midi file...just like there is NO audio in a player piano roll. The audio comes from the piano, or in the case of midi the synthesizer or your midi soundcard which has a synthesizer built onto it. Now midi sync. Midi Sync is a type of timecode that is generated by a midi file and a sequencer. It sends out Tempo, beat and measure information. You would enable soundforge to sync to midi if you had an external sequencer and wanted a sound in soundforge to play at a certain time while that external sequencer was playing it's midi file.
