Border Changes Size

Jazzman54 wrote on 6/24/2010, 11:40 AM
I have done this lots of times in Vegas 8.x, but this time.....
I have a simple scrolling still with a simple border. Beginning and end keyframe for the pan and no keyframes at all for the border. With Vegas 9e I get a border size change just about when the still sides cross screen centre. All 3 border styles do the same thing. Any ideas?

Thanks
Ian

I noted the exact same problem several months ago.

Vegas 8 didn't do this, Vegas 9 did.

This was also confirmed by other folks on this forum.

It was reported by someone who I forget.

The issue still remains.

Keyframes are able to have their own characteristic on just how they execute their process: Hold, Smooth, Fast, etc. and also the smoothness of that same process. I have Keyframe interpolation "smoothness" set to ZERO. It is very possible you have chosen or have gone with the default Keyframe characteristic. If you wish to have a sustained K/F then I would go with HOLD - this way you can be assured that at least the K/F will not have value. In VP9 we are now able to set globally the KF execution activity:

Options | Preferences | External Control & Automation

In this lower section you can pre-set all the ways KFs are executed. - Marvellous!

I think this is a problem as kentwolf suggested (although my search of the forums did not find any other reference to it).
If you hold the video at the point when the border changes size, you see a single frame where the border is visible, using the edge of the screen and not the edge of the still (hope that makes sense!). This is where the border size change happens.
I will go back to my PC the evening and try to repeat this with a new V9 project and then V8.
Thanks

Hello Jazzman01,
so you are saying the size of the black changes (expands to encompass more and less of the image) and not the size of the image (shrinking to permit more and less of the black)...?

Until that time... Earl J.

Sorry, Earl J, if I was not clear. I should have posted a plain border example. What changes is the thickness of the border (bevel in this case). It jumps to a much thicker value at around 15% in and then returns to a thiner value around 85% of the way through. This does look like a problem 'cos kentwolf says it is a known issue and there is a single frame point where the edges change, at which the border gets confused between the video and the event edges.
I am going to render this section in V8, where I never has this issue.
Thanks all.
