Subject:Switched to Windows 7 ...problems!

System:
Windows 7 Home Edition 64 bit
Presonus Firestudio Project
ACID Pro 7.0e

Hello,
Longtime ACID user was running Windows Vista 64-bit with no problems.
Switched to Windows 7 to take advantage of the memory management benifits.
Updated all the drivers ( software & hardware). Overall system seems faster.
Tried to record some jams and nothing but problems. First thing I noticed was when I clicked on some loops in my library which is located on a seperate drive, it was like a broken record..... it would play 3 counts of a 16 count loop and just hick-up all over it... very depressing. Then I tried recording and it just hung-up like no tomorrow...no hope in that.
I tried playing with buffer settings ( hardware and software ) nothing worked. Please, tell me I'm not alone and that someone has the answer..... aggghhh!

thanks for any help....

Please fill out your system specs in your user profie, and mark them as visible.

Do you have an alternate sound device to test with?
Are you using ASIO drivers with the Presonus hardware?

A possible, but unlikely, cause might be a firewire setting for windows:

Check out this link

http://support.microsoft.com/kb/885222

While this information is specific to WinXP, I have seen it affect Vista and Win7.

Note that the update fix will not work on Win7, so don't try it. Read the section on how to check the registry carefully, as this is the cause of the problem I have seen and fixed on my Win7 boxes.

Please be careful when changing settings in your registry.

I'm using Acid 7 on my laptop with Windows 7 pro 64. Runs as smooth as silk. Peter is correct with the ASIO and firewire issues. Personally i wouldn't mess with the registry in Win 7 unless you know EXACTLY what you are doing. All your registry holds data for your comp, so one bad move and you could make your system inoperable. Also stay away from the CMOS. Win 7 doesn't like to be messed with. If you can, upgrade you video card with more memory (this prevents bottlenecking) and upgrade your HDs to 32 Mb cache (this will help your RAM function much faster) that would be my 1st suggestion. I'm assuming you've tweeked your PC to be recording friendly?

As for your second drive where you keep your loops, is this something you installed yourself? If so, make sure it's not hooked up to the same ribbon as your main drive because it will automatically defualt to your slowest drive. Hook up your second drive to your DVD/CD ribbon, set the optical drive to slave and your 2nd HD to master.

Good luck :)
