Subject:Missing something from Acid Pro?...Try Bidule!!!

I've been looking for the past couple of days to find a way around some of Acid's shortcomings in the routing of MIDI and VST.

I came across Bidule and it's just what the doctor ordered.

It's an easy to use modular thing that loads into Acid as a VST effect...but can do almost any type of hosting and routing configuration you can imagine.

Acid currently doesn't allow midi control of effects like SugarBytes Artillery and NI's The Finger. Also, using vocoders, sidechaining, and any other plug with strange routing is often difficult in Acid.

With Bidule you can bypass these limitations easily and do a whole lot more.

It's much more powerful than a normal vst chainer and it's from the same guys that developed the Aria engine that Acid Pro uses.

Perhaps Sony can incorporate a stripped down (hosting/routing only) version into Acid at some point.

I will defintly check this out, a friend of mine has effectrix and i was heartbroken that i could not use that in acid.

I will give bidule a test drive.

One thing to know is that even though Bidule is running as a vst effect, Acid doesn't share it's midi ports, so you'll have to make sure that Acid Pro and Bidule aren't trying to use the same controller.

I have a little Korg Nano patched to Bidule, although I'm sure there's a way to use a virtual midi port to sequence Bidule events to an Acid midi track.

I guess you could also just load up a separate small midi recorder/sequencer inside of Bidule.

I've only been messing around for a couple of hours but it really has my head swirling.

Pretty amazing stuff especially since it's not even at version 1 yet.

The developers seem to be competing with high-level experimental stuff like Kyma and Max/MSP...using midi and vst is barely scratching the surface.

I guess in theory you could create stuff like Max for Live patches inside of Acid Pro.

I cant get the bidule demo of the vst version,so i guess i will have 2 wait.

Bidule seems really cool, alot more than i need right now, but i would love to tinker with the possibilites.

What i need, is something to make effectrix work in acid, everything else is a bonus.

Coolout, if you can, could you post a video on youtube getting effectrix or the finger working in acid. That would be great.

Thanx in Advance.

foudn out an indie dev vst named sidekick which handles sidchaining using virtual ports of it's own - it communicates between the sound signals between it's instances so you can route say Y tracks to sidecahin affect say another X tracks, usign X+Y instances of it.. not sure about the quality yet though - sure quality sidecahining is required in a native and highly contollable and easy manner in all DAWs !
