Who Burns Blu Rays?

papaterry33 wrote on 6/14/2010, 11:32 AM
Just started burning B-Discs with Panasonic BDR 205 internal burner.
On your remote control for your Blu Ray PLAYER you have a "Skip" button that should let you skip to the next chapter or skip repeatedly to move ahead on your disc, or skip backwards as well. Is anyone able to burn blu ray discs with Architect that will let you do this? I cannot.
Preview in Architect works as it should, but the burned disc does not allow the Skip function. You have to go back to Main Menu to jump around on your disc or you must use fast forward to move quickly to a desired chapter.

One note: I noticed in Architect, in Menu Page Properties that "Next" and "Time/Search" were set to "Off" (I think all the other options were set to On) so I set those to "On" and burned again, but same result. I've tested discs on 2 players with same results.

Also, I burned BD with Pinnacle Studio 14 that played perfectly and had the "Next" button functionality. Is there some setting in Architect that I'm not getting right?

Please chime in if you have insight into this issue.

Thanks,
Terry

I've burned quite a few Blu-Ray discs and have not had a problem with the "skip" buttons functioning properly.
If you've checked to make sure that the "Previous/up" and the "Next" are set to "On" within "remote buttons" under "Media Properties" I can't think of a reason that you should be having problems. (Note: You indicated that "Next" and "Time/Search" were set to "On" in Menu Page Properties ...... make sure they're "On" for "Media Properties" also)

John, thanks for response! Yep, all remote items are set to "on" and problem exists.
Discovered just now that when burned bd is placed in player and "play" button is used, the "next" button on remote works. But once "scene selection" is clicked, not only will "next" button not work, but when I go to top menu and clicking on "play" button again the "next" button now does not work there as it did before going into "scene selection." Using scene selection seems to render the "next" button ineffective. Ain't that sumpin! So I deleted the chapter markers and scene selection from my project in Architect, re-set the chapter markers and re-entered Scene Selection on my menu. As before, Preview works as ought to but the disc has the same problem with the "Next" button. Once I click into Scene Selection the Next button won't work. Open the tray and restart the disc and click Play and all is "Next" works. Enter Scene Selection and "Next" is useless again.

I'm going to open Vegas Pro 9 and put chapters in the project there and re render and take in Architect and post what happens in a few minutes.
Thanks
Terry

Thanks Dan,
I found that Media Properties through the View menu and made some changes so all are set to on except the greyed out ones, like "Menu." which I can't turn on. The disc i then burned has the same failing. Once I enter "Scene Selection" the Next button is useless. Will keep up the qwest for a solution. I would like to see all of your settings and to be able to imitate your workflow if you have time to address that.

THANKS
Terry

UPDATE: I found a workaround way to have scenes and a usable "Next" button on your player remote control. In Architect > Help, search for "scene selection" and follow the steps to create a "scene selection only disc." This works!

Dan, when you say you've done lots of bd discs without a problem with the Next function on the remote, does that include disc menus that have a "Play" button plus a "Scene Selection" button? The problem I've described previously was that my menus have both of those buttons and once the scene selection button is used to play disc content, the Next button on the remote control becomes useless until I reinsert and restart the disc using the Play button NOT the Scene Selection button.

Just a few minutes ago I learned from Architect > Help> Adding a Scene Selection Menu > Create a Scene Selection Menu Only Disc, and my disc now allows use of the "next" button on the remote control to click to and fro between chapters w/o returning to Main Menu. Satisfying, but still would like to resolve this issue I've been describing.

Thanks for your time.

Yes, most of my Blu-Ray discs have both "Play" and "Scene Selection" choices on the Main Menu. I have just re-confirmed that the "Next" function works properly after selecting "Scene Selection" I'm baffled as ro why this doesn't work for you.

Dan, thank you for the response. Will keep working with it. Learning a lot in the process!
Oh, do you create your chapters in Vegas Pro 9 or in Architect Pro 5?

Terry

P.S. If you get time, would you mind describing your process from start to finish and all of the relevant settings? A lot to ask, I know, but as you have time perhaps. I'll check back.

Which disc maker do you recommend for the printable type?

Terry, I make my chapters and render from within Vegas Pro 9. If you want, I'll email you one of my Blu-Ray DVDA ".dar" files (without media) for you to look at. Just click on my name and send me a message with the email address to send it to.
