From say an MP3 or something? Is there a way to remove or diminish the lead vocals? |

I think there was a vocal remover in Sound Forge Audio Studio but there's nothing like that in regular SF. Try doing a search here for more info - the subject's been talked about many times. Jack |

The new version of Sound Forge Audio Studio 10 has the iZotope Vocal Eraser plug-in. Without getting into specifics, how well it works depends a lot on how the song was originally mixed. Search this forum and elsewhere for details. |

Audio Studio has the plug in and 10 does not. Doh. Ok, called Sony on this and there is no way they will sell or create a way by which the plug in can be used in 10. The developer Izotope makes you fill out a form on their website and and the Sony customer service person said they will probably not sell it and its not available for download on their normal products offering on their wesbite. So basically it ain't happenin' in SF10. However, Sony did say they can give 20% off on SF Audio Studio which is the equivalent of paying $50 for a plug in. I am going to check some places like CNET to see if there is another option, maybe EBAY for a cheaper SFAudio License. Would be nice if a developer had something on the side. I will pay $35 if someone can make or knows of a vocal remover plugin. Message last edited on6/11/2010 12:50:04 PM bypbfromdc. |

Sorry, I didn't realize you have the SF pro. Try the 'Channel Converter' under the 'Process' menu. Otherwise, I'm sure you can get a plug-in that costs far less than the entire AS-10 package, which you certainly don't need, in fact I have seen more than one freeware vocal remover plug-in around. Check this 'free plug-in' database http://www.gersic.com/plugins/index.php?daCat=-5 or Harmony Central. |

How bizarre Izotope won't sell this as a discete plugin !!! [LINK=http://www.izotope.com/tech/vocalremover/] There are a bunch of vocal removers out there - some free. Quality of results depends on the sophistication of the software (and operator), and the nature of the original track. Tracks with lots of panned vocals and deep reverb are very difficult to eliminate vocals from. Also try: [LINK=http://tinyurl.com/2c7lkx6] ;-) geoff Message last edited on6/11/2010 5:55:06 PM byGeoff_Wood. |

Guys, in my opinion the process channel converter works about as well as anything out there. I mean I am just looking for something to sing along with in the car and there are some pretty sophisticated tools available. I was trying to do Grateful Dead songs which are really wet vocals and the results were not so good with anything. You always have this ghosting effect of the vocals it seemed no matter what I tried. So there is no magic bullet but the results are something I can definitely live with. |

Ha! When i sing along in the car i prefer to have the original vocals still blasting at their full volume. That way i don't have to listen to my own voice when i'm singing. ;) |

Quite agree, Kelly. Lip-sync is much easier on the ears than Karaoke! |
