Subject:Please help with recording softsynths

I would love it if someone could tell me what in my process I am doing wrong. I don't consider myself a novice but I have an intermittent problems when recording softsynths that is irritating.

This problem has occurred in multiples OS's, sound cards, and multiples versions of ACID and any softsynth that you care to mention so I think that the problem must be with me!

I load a softsynth in ACID, then open a midi track. My midi controller is outputting on channel 1. In ACID, the track Midi input is set at autoinput receiving on all channels. Output for the track I select the softsynth and select channel 1.

I perform and the notes are recorded - everything appears to be fine. When I play the track back, if all goes well then the recorded notes play back as expected, but occasionally nothing plays back. For some reason the midi notes don't seem to be going out to the softsynth.

I can not figure out what I am doing differently from when it works to when it doesn't work!

Nothing I do within ACID can make the notes play apart from saving and restarting ACID. Then the track performs as expected.

Someone please tell me what I am doing wrong.

Thank You!

It seems like an intermittent bug I can't reproduce myself on demand. (The only difference is I specifically assign an input and channel for recording.)

It only does this to me once in a blue moon though. The only thing that works is closing ACID and then restarting and then reopening the project.

I guess I figured that as I have intermittently been experiencing this since I started with ACID 5, that the problem was with me. As you say I can never figure out what I do differently from when the problem occurs and when it works fine.

Potter:
Are the notes not going to the softsynth at all when you hit play in Acid or are the notes going out and you're just not hearing anything? If the latter check to see if you have any MIDI volume messages in your MIDI stream. You may have a CC7 message pulling your volume down to zero somewheres along the data stream. If that is happening you need to have a CC7 message at the beginning of the MIDI data stream setting your volume to some specific level (what ever you want it to be).

When this happens to me, I just select the draw tool and click/highlight one of the midi notes containged in the recorded media file. if you here the sound of the selected note, you are good to go.

Same. Dunno why I should have to though.
