Subject:Dumping Cubase for ACID - have 3 quick questions

Having too many bugs with Cubase and East West Gold VST instrument. Wanting to try ACID. Just did a Feature film edited on Vegas (now listed on Netflix no less) so very familiar with Sony environment. No intention of doing loops, just using it to record audio and mid tracks and mix to a wav file.

Have THREE DAYS to finish my scoring. Will be using East West. Also have MOTU 2408 interface and PC XP pro 32 bit.

NEED TO KNOW:

1- Downloaded demo to try it out. Is it fully functional, if not, what is not activated? How many tracks are usable, for how long and can I export final mix to a wav file? Full version is not expensive will buy it once I make sure this thing works with East West.

1- Currently East West was installed in "VST Pluggin" folder of Cubase. Will Acid see it there? Or do I need to reinstall etc... I'd like to use both Cubase and Acid still so where shoud East West reside???

2- Can someone walk me through the basic set-up of my ASIO and input / output? I have 8 analog channels in and 2 out but really only need to use 2 in and 2 out.

3- How do I set-up , or select a VST instrument in ACID?

I hope I can figure out the rest on my own in such a short amount of time but if not I'll post additional questions here.

THANK YOU. I am on tight deadline to deliver the film scoring to mixing studio and just plain fed up with Cubase BS. Hopefully Acid can come to the rescue

Hi Faith, Deuce of Spades right? I've seen many of your posts on the DVXUser forum. Here are some answers:

> 1- Downloaded demo to try it out. Is it fully functional, if not, what is not activated? How many tracks are usable, for how long and can I export final mix to a wav file? Full version is not expensive will buy it once I make sure this thing works with East West.

I believe the trial is fully functional for the duration of the trial period. ACID Pro has unlimited tracks just like Vegas. If anything is limited it might be rendering to codecs that require a license fee but rendering to WAV should work fine.

No need to re-install; just tell ACID where to look for it. Go to the Plug-in Manager tab (Ctrl+Alt+1) and press the Configure VST button in the upper right corner. Then use the Add button to add your Steinberg VST folder to the list that ACID will search. (I believe it's C:\Program Files\Steinberg\VSTPlugins). Finally press the Scan button and it will scan that folder and find all of the VST/VSTis that are installed there.

Go to Options | Preferences | Audio Device and select your MOTU ASIO driver. Then select the outputs you want to use for playback right under that. For selecting your recording inputs for audio, you need to insert an audio track and second button after the track name (to the right of the ARM button) will let you select the input you want to record from. Unless you are recording a stereo source, I would select just one input (usually mono left).

There are several ways and I use the old method of pressing the Insert Soft Synth... button on the top of the Mixer window. Then I select my VST instrument from the list that pops up. Finally, add a MIDI track and ARM it for recording (ACID should automatically assign it to the VST instrument but it's always good to double-check)

You can also drag and drop a VSTi from the Plug-in Manager onto the mixer or just select Insert | Soft Synth... from the top ACID menu. Any one of those will do.

BTW, that was 4 questions. ;-) (Good Luck!)

In addition to Johnny's post, you can drag a soft-synth from the Plug-in Manager View directly to the time line. A track will be created that will be correctly routed to the new soft-synth as well as the Soft-synth bus being created. A single step.
