Does anyone know how clip-related plateaus is actually defined in Detect Clipping. Nothing I can find in the documentation. You can specify the length of the plateau in samples, but some assumption is being made about the slope. I don't think the slope needs to be horizontal, just less than some angle.

Not quite sure what you're asking; clipping in digital audio recordings occurs at >0dBFS, and is horizontal for some duration as a function of the theoretical amplitude and indirectly of the frequency. Slope is undefined, as in y = somevalue.

The reason the clip detector can operate at lower threshold levels is because some clipped audio may have reduced volume for whatever reason. Have you observed some behavior of the clip detector that is raising a question for you?
