Frontier Designs AlphaTrack Support

RichardHK wrote on 5/13/2010, 3:25 AM
Just bought an AlphaTrack for my Sonar DAW and it works very well indeed. Checked my Vegas Pro 9 for support, but only has the Tranzport controller listed.

Are there any plans for SCS to deliver support for the AlphaTrack? It's a real cool/mean piece of hardware and would make Vegas editing even better.

Funny you should say this because I just posted the same question on the Frontier Alphatrack forum:

You might do better asking about this in the audio forum.

Hi Laurence,

Yes, I saw your message in the AlphaTrack forum which prompted me to write here. Had no idea you would be here too, and support need is important. From Frontier Design's reply it seems the ball is in the SCS court - so here is my message.

Bob. The controller is equally useful for video or audio work. You can program the thing to replace any menu operations, so will make Vegas work even more effectively.

As SCS have already supplied a TranzPort driver, it seems fair to ask for an AlphaTrack one too, as some people use both at same time!

SCS - Is this right place to ask?

If you want to actually ping SCS then I'd go up to the "Support" pulldown menu at the top of the page and submit a product suggestion.

SCS people do look at this forum a little but they don't seem to have anyone on payroll to read all the forums full time.

If you want, paste a URL to this thread into your feature request.

Thanks Rob.
Yes, I will do that as I believe such an update would be well received by many.

"Bob. The controller is equally useful for video or audio work."

No doubt however all the HUI development is done under the 'audio' side of Vegas. You might even be able to get this device to work using emulation. I'm no expert on this but you'll find much info over on the audio forum if you dig around. Many devices that are not officially supported have been made to work to varying degrees.

I asked Sony and Frontier both several years ago about supporting the Alpha for use in Vegas. (I use SONAR in addition to Vegas pro 9e).

It seems a little more feature rich than the Fader Port, and I was told by SCS that they would take it into consideration.

Still waiting, like you guys. Although, the Fader Port would be a nice 2cd option. At least we have an option now.

I'm bumping this because (a) Frontier Design say they've supplied everything to Sony and it's out of their hands and up to Sony to now provide the support and (b) I just want my AlphaTrack to work with Vegas :-)

To Sony: I'm currently a Vegas Movie Studio user, but if you provide support for the AlphaTrack in Vegas (even if it's Pro-only!), then I'll upgrade.

Over to you.
