Subject:Switch from Vegas to Acid?

I have been using Vegas to record audio since the days of separate Vegas audio and video programs but I’m examining switching to Acid. (I currently use Vegas 5 for audio only and have no need for MIDI in the kind of music I do.)

I like everything about Vegas except for one thing. You can only have one time signature and tempo per project file. Because of this if I have multiple time signatures in a song I either have to split it into multiple project files or remember that after a time signature change that “beat one” is really “beat three” (for example). I can live with it but before recording my next project I wanted see if there is a program that would handle this better.

Acid would be the logical choice since the interfaces are similar and Acid allows multiple time signatures and tempos per song. However, events in Acid are opaque rather than transparent as they are in Vegas. I do a lot editing based on moving events relative to the grid and I need to be able to see the grid lines through the event before moving or splitting etc.

I have two questions. Is there any way to change the event appearance in Acid from opaque to transparent (as in Vegas). And two, is there anything else significant that Vegas can do (audio only, of course) that Acid can not.

Thanks in advance!

If your style leads more towards the musically creative, ACID would certainly be more up your alley as its tools are more geared towards that crowd. You don't have to switch; more like augment your workflow.

Events being transparent is intriguing (I don't use Vegas...at least not the pro version).

Transparent events are one of those things you don't miss if you've never used them but once you do you don't want to give them up. I'll probably just stick with Vegas since I can't see any advantage to using both. (Also, I own Vegas. Just have an Acid demo.) I just wanted to make sure I wasn't missing a configuration setting.

Song, loop and project construction are much better in Acid, but Vegas is quicker and smoother for complex editing and mixing (and in my experience, more stable). I've used both programs from the first versions.

Snap. I still prefer to use Vegas for everything, except MIDI, softsynth, and loop-based composition.
