cannot set "preferred audio device" -AC-3 Encoder - MAGIX Community Forums Archive

I cannot edit audio files using the "mixer" which comes with vegas movie studio. Each time I try to edit the audio I get the error message"you need to specify an audio device". So , I go to options-preferences-audio-browse and i arrive at (disc media, media, renderred media, renders) If I look at executable files there is nothing to choose. I have picked all the options that are there and they result in the error message-cannot open using this. Does anyone have any suggestions?
