Subject:Acid Pro pitch questions ...

Hi,

I know very little about music theory and want a better understanding on what Acid is doing musically when it stretches (pitch) clips. I'll make some assumptions below and it would be appreciated if someone can assist with a "yes" or "no" with a brief explanation.

1. Given the project default A(4) key at 440 Hz, Acid will try to shift loops in other keys to the 440 frequency.

2. If Acid can't do the above, it will shift the pitch to the nearest frequency on the Chromatic scale for A.

TIA for any input.

Brian

Hi Brian,

1. *Only* if the sample is ACIDized with key information. For example, you might have an ACIDized loop (typically percussion and other drum samples with no definite pitch) that's ACIDized at 120 BPM but has no root key.

2. For any sample that is not ACIDized, ACID will try its best to determine what tempo the sample best fits into but will not guess its key. (This is why it's best to have the sample ACIDized beforehand; just too much guesswork involved and too many surprises.)

HTH,
Iacobus

Thanks for the info. Looks like SF10 will come in handy.

You're welcome! :D

ACID Pro can ACIDize any sample you throw at it. In a nutshell:

Solo the track. Set the Loop Region over the area you want to turn into a Loop. Set the project to the desired tempo and key (if applicable). Press Ctrl + M[/b} and use the "render loop region only" option. ACID will create a new track for the render. From then on this Loop will have ACIDized tempo and key info that you specified earlier.

There's a lot more in regards to tweaking a newly-ACIDized sample too, like accessing its properties to tweak its stretching markers and such. (I'd still suggest Sound Forge Pro 10 regardless; just so many editing tools one can't be without.)
