Subject:Audio, loops & instruments on NAS ?

The harddisc of my PC is filling up and i want to look further then adding another external usb harddrive... usually yet another powersupply etc , different size of box etc
Can someone give advice or comment from own experience:

- will there be any performance issues in AP7 when adding a firewire or ethernet NAS?
- can anyone recommend any 3-5 disc units? have been looking at drobo, qnap and synology

I have a Buffalo Technology NAS that's been running 24/7 for several years and I'm very happy with it. We keep all of our media on it and it serves up movies to the kids Playstation 3 as well. My ACID loops are local so I don't know how it would perform with loops on it but if you have a 100 megabit Ethernet adapter you should be fine. If you are wireless then your bandwidth will be limited to 52 megabit which may or may not be a problem depending on how many loops you are trying to access simultaneously.

Hi, I tried this moving my Acid Loops to an external USB2 drive. I quickly gave up. Accessing folders inside Explorer became very slow. USB3 may well be fast enough when it arrives but USB2 isn't. I ended up getting a 2 TB hard drive and swapping out one of my internal hard drives. I have a separate partition for my loops.

No more external usb-drives - adding internal drive is a way to go but am looking for 4-5 disc options

Buffalo Technology NAS looks solid - will check them out
