hahaha.....$740?? so you buy all of your software?? anyways....notin against ACID....ACID is a great piece of software but im just sayin that IF YOU THINK YOU DESERVE MORE THAN JUST ACID....i would reccomend SONAR XL!! but again, thats if you think that ACID is just not enuff.....you cant be a goof and mess around with a software like SONAR....you ought to know what youre doing and how a studio works!.....its just not taking loops and assembling.....IT'S THE NEXT LEVEL!!....later

nah, I messed around w/ Sonar and as far as audio arranging, ease of use, intuitiveness, gui etc., Acid kicks its ass. Its lame that Cakewalk even trys to market itself towards an Acid/remixer user at all. In fact, all the features of Acid that Sonar tries to immitate, Acid does 10x better. It's easy to get something up an going quickly w/ Acid, and at the same time supports advanced remixing/editing techniques. I'd rather be spending my time creating something, than messing around with environment settings. Acid has never been a MIDI sequencer, and hopefully never will. If you need a total software studio, then nothing even comes close to Logic Audio.

As far as sound quality, Acid 3 sounds terrific. If you cant figure out how to get your computer software/hardware operable, then you should either learn, or stick to hardware gear.

Yes I absolutely do buy all my software, I would'nt use a crack. That just hurts everybody in the long run, But I will take it if it's a gift, But as far as Sonar, for what I wanted it for it does'nt work I wanted it strictly for the revalver amp plug-in untill I found out that it does'nt work in real time, how can you tell what the effects your applying while your playing guitar sounds like untill after you're done playing it just does'nt work. So I'll stick with Sound Forge and Acid. The price is right and it works for me.

I'm a professional songwriter/musician. I own and use both Acid Pro 3.0 and Sonar.

I upgraded to Sonar from Cakewalk Pro Audio 9 because a product that promised to integrate looping, midi, and digital audio was irresistable. But Sonar can't compete with Acid Pro when it comes to loop based tracks. From sketching out a song idea to constructing the final rhythm track, Acid Pro is far and away the best product. It is amazing to say the least, offering excellent sound quality, ease of use, the ability to sync to external devices and internal applications, stability...Oh and did I mention stability? Dare I say "Rock Solid"?

Check out the Cakewalk newsgroups concerning Sonar's stability issues. Read a few postings from the Cakewalk faithful and you'll realize the question isn't whether or not Sonar is better than Acid Pro. It is whether or not Sonar is even as good as it's own sibling, Pro Audio 9.

For my projects, I leave the looping to Acid Pro.

ok cool.....i agree ACID PRO is the LOOP KING! sonar actually did try to compete with ACID......but could people at sonic foundry please come out with acid 3.0b asap so that i wont have any bugs!

I am in the same boat with you, I am a pro and use both of these programs exclusively....but I love Sonar. Is it as good at loops as Acid, no but it works pretty good... Acid 3 is a great program but it still doesn't sync with smpte or MTC and the Midi is laughable.... There is not much differnce between 2.0 and 3.0....at least for the way I use it. It's more like an upgrade. And I hate the way the efx are set up now.... I don't like it at all....

The main thing I wish from both programs is that I wish that they would be more like eachother....If Sonar could do loops as good and as quick as acid than you wouldn't need acid....Or if acid was able to handle midi/sync as well as Sonar than you wouldn't need Sonar......

So if you put a gun to my head and I could only use 1 program...it would be Sonar..just because of the midi.

But since there is no gun to my head I own them both!!

Oh yeah please SF guys, give us the 3.0b version of acid, cuz its lagging as hell with my computer, even if its pretty good one with 198mb of RAM !!!

Anyway does anyone knows if i can work as fast on logic audio with loops and disk based files (for cuting, snaping, mixing...) as in acid ?
tnx

Westside I totally agree with you.I feel that V3 of Acid is just a slight upgrade from V2.I have used V3 and am glad I didnt buy it.
I am currently using Sonar XL with the 1.02 upgrade patch. With this upgrade Sonar does everything ACID does and also has FULL midi capabilities, playback, record, full editing etc etc, much better than the very poor MIDI in Acid 3.

HEY GUYS, THANKS FOR SUPPORTING SONAR.....PEOPLE WHO ARE PROFESSIONALS, DO NOTICE THE DIFFERENCE IN SOUND QUALITY AND ALSO, MIDI CAPABILITES BLOW ACID AWAY! SONAR IS DEFINATELY A GOOD BUY....IF YOU DONT THINK SO, YOU DON'T KNOW WHAT IT CAN DO!

I AGREE THAT IN THE SONAR FOURM, PEOPLE AREN'T TALKIN GOOD STUFF ABOUT SOME ISSUES IT MIGHT HAVE....BUT IT'S JUST VERSION 1.0......GIVE IT A BREAK....FOR VERSON 1.0 IT'S HELLA COOL......PATCHES WILL COME OUT TO FIX CURRENT KNOWN BUGS!!

SO, TO CONCLUDE, I WOULD SAY THAT SONAR IS DEFINATLEY BETTER THAN ACID FOR MUSIC PRODUCTION......BUT, COMBINATION OF BOTH IS VERY VERY POWERFUL.....UMM FOR THE GUY WHO ASKED ABOUT LOGIC AUDIO......LOGIC AUDIO IS VERY POWERFUL BUT SONAR + ACID is WAY BETTER THAN LOGIC AUDIO!

You guys are ignoring what ACID 3.0 does with MIDI files. SONAR will never be able to do that.

Can you preview MIDI files in SONAR? Can you open Two MIDI files in SONAR? Can you have all channels as ONE MIDI clip in Sonar? NO No no.
Go buy the KeyFax MIDI patterns, and use them with ACID 3.0... you will see the benifit.

ACID 3.0 dose the loopy loops. And that loop explorer in SONAR is a JOKE. It has crashed more times than I have EXPLORED a loop.

ACID 3.0 is the LOOP KING.

The loop explorer is fixed in SONAR with the 1.02 update as well as some other bugs and there are a couple of new features.Of course you can open other MIDI files in SONAR,just assign them to a different track!!!!
I am using SONAR and finding new things about it each day,I upgraded from Cakewalk 9 so I have not had to learn a new interface and it is also rock solid on my system.Watch out Cubase 5!!(which is on its 5th upgrade patch already and still isnt fixed!)

Well i donno about you guys but STOP FIGHTING WITHOUT EVIDENCES !!

Anyway the only thing I know is that Logic Audio is used by many great artist such as the Daft Punk (i.e. new album "Discovery).

So when i'm looking at acid the only hope i have is that it's the best for loop sequencing. But so far my ACID Pro 3.0 lags and stutter during playback (and when it doesn't stutter i have to wait 15 sec to hear what i made).

Shakil, I will not argue about which is loop King.... Acid still does a better job IMO. It is more stable and seems like it matches BPM better, but Sonar does a great job and is much more powerful.

Say I want to have a piano (midi) part going with Acid...I have to go into a sequencer, record the midi file and then import it.... What if I want to change just one note...? I have to do it all over again....Big Pain!!!! For each little change in every track you have to do this.....Some of my pieces are 30-40 Tracks long.....If you think I am going to do this for each one, you are crazy...Not to mention the fact that everything has to be perfect in the midi track.. I can't tell you how many time I have to go back and fix velocities.

It's nice to be able to throw in Midi in Acid 3.0, but if you can't manipulate it, then there isn't much point.

And for the guy who asked which program to choose....Sonar is one of the best programs I have seen...Kind of the way I felt about acid 2.0.....but not 3.0

Hello

It really depends on what you want to do. See how a software can benefit you and how it can make your job faster and easier. Are you a "loop-based" music composer? Then get Acid. If you deal alot with both Midi and Audio and run softsynths, then I would suggest that you look at Logic and the new Sonar.

I prefer Acid because of the type of music that I make and the ease of use of the program.

Later,
Ginno
