Subject:Time shift issue with audio

Hello:

I'm experimenting with dropping small .WAV files into Acid Music Studio 7.0. The files are voice samples which are quite small (e.g., 200KB). However, when I play them back (or even preview them in Acid Music) they appear to have what I would call a timeshift issue. Basically, they sound like two files playing at the same time, but with a slight phase shift.

No matter sample rate and bit depth I choose, I get this really annoying chorusing or phase shift effect.

Any ideas what would be causing this?

Regards,
Michelle

Hi Michelle,

What sounds like what's happening is that ACID is trying to do its best in determining what kind of sample is being imported. By default, anything under half a second is treated as a One-shot (where no time stretching is done); anything over 30 seconds is treated as Beatmapped (stretched); anything in-between is treated as a Loop (also stretched).

You can try clicking Options > Preferences > Audio on the menu bar and playing with the "open samples as loops if between" option. (Note I'm referring to ACID Pro 7.0 here as I don't have ACID Music Studio 7.0.)

ON EDIT: Aside from that, I would suggest Sound Forge so as to "ACIDize" your samples beforehand so no confusion goes on when they are imported into ACID. Spoken word samples should mostly be treated as One-shots but can be treated as Loops as long as no key is assigned to them.

HTH,
Iacobus

Highlight each track. go to clip properties and change each track from LOOP to ONE SHOT..... your are having this issue because acid is trying to use the wave file as a loop.

hope that helps
