Subject:Win2k, Layla24, Sound Forge 5, and clicks and pops

Hey,

I have an Athlon 900 running on a Tyan S2390 with
256k, a VIA KT133 chipset, and a second 7200 rpm
hardrive dedicated to sound files. The OS is
Win2k professional.

When I use my Layla24 with either Sound Forge 5
or Vegas LE I hear digital clicks and pops. Sometimes
I hear 7 seconds of music then a single click, and
other times a hear 1 second of music followed by a
maching-gun effect of clicks and pops, or a lot
of music then a lot of noise, or a little music then
a little noise -- the point being that there is no
discernable pattern.

1) When I play the same file through my cheap, after
market sound card, the file plays just fine.

2) When I use Layla through Sonar, I do not hear noise.

The aforementioned conditions lead me to conclude that
the problem is not in Layla24 or its BETA drives,
but in the way SF and Vegas use the drivers. Does
this sound at all reasonable?

Has anybody else had similar experiences?

Ted

Hi Ted,

I'm also using the Echo Layla24 on a Intel Pentium III 1Ghz, 256Mb, a Dell Dimension. I'm also using Windows 2000 with SP2. I don't have the problem you are having. I also have a second sound card, a SB Live for my windows sound. I used it with Acic PRO 2.0, 3.0, Sound Forge 4.5, 5.0, Vega Audio, Vega Video, Siren. None of them give me a problem.

Regards,
Diederick.

Clicks and pops are from either low buffer settings or slow hard drives make sure to defrag on a regular basis. And if you have DMA settings to use try them.
