Come on then all you experts. Ive played round for hours with sf 4.5xp and all my recordings have clicks on em. It did manage on track without! Tried all the ways advised but to no avail. Did notice as I read replies to hard drive noise that the sound cards could be a source of the problem. Is there any way to record to ram rather than h/d? I dont want to spend hours mucking about. All I want is to put all my old vinyl heavy metal onto c/d. Thanks guys and gals. |

I'm not an expert so take my comments with a measure of caution. I had a similar problem with SF 4.5. It does not seem to occur in SF 5. It happened in SF 4.5 after the PC had been on a long time. Re-booting the PC usually eliminated the clicks and crackle - until the PC had been on for another long period of time. |

Thanks for the reply. Glad to know I am not the only non-expert out here. I will give it a try. |

G'mornin Cap'n, To avoid all the computer hassle, you could copy to Mini-Disc instead. I recently bought a Sony unit from www.fullcompass.com for about $329 that has 24Bit A/D, and newer Type R ATRAC. I recorded a choral concert simultaneously to MD, DAT, and Computer, using SF Vegas Audio 44.1/24Bit. To my ears, the MD is just as good. I'm at my day job now, but I believe the model is MDS-J940, it ends in 940 at least. Fair winds and following seas, Cap'n . . Rick Z |

Same problem in my first recording with SF 4.5 under 98SE with 64Mo RAM. 128Mo RAM solves the problem |

More RAM *might* be the solution for some. Not in my case however. I operate with more than 256 Megs and had the clicks and crackle. |

Thanks for the input. I have popped in a cheapo sound card and disabled my motherboards on board sound chip. Iam running 125 ram . The problem has now sailed off into the distance. So if any of you are getting the same problem with the VIA chipset on board sound try a seperate sound card it worked for me. Its cost me 7 pounds and about 45 mins to fit. captainvinyl sailing off. |
