hi all, a while ago i decided to start using the pca format and with the amount of data i work with i'm glad for the the size reduction. i've been curious how many users might might be using this format also. one thing i notice about pca is that, even though the prefs are set to be 1 shot, when it's opened in sound forge its default is beatmapped. is wavs all the pref setting addresses? |

PCA is Sony's own tech, so I wouldn't expect to see others using it unless they are using Sony Creative's apps as well. Not sure what's going on in Sound Forge. Could be a bug. If you tried saving it in Sound Forge with its ACIDized properties set as "One-shot" and reopen, does it default to Beatmapped again? Iacobus |

Since drives got huge and cheap there would seem no point in PCA, especially for tracking, and possibly incurs some some processing overhead. For lossless saving to CD or DVD media it is an idea for archiving or backup (a script anybody ?), but for anything likely to ever need to go to another company's application FLAC would be a better choice as widely supported. geoff |

thanks for the replies... to further clarify: i started a major effort to 'import' all my previous ensoniq songs [literally 100s] into ap7 and had to do so 1 at a time...took a while. now i am building each song. one day was looking at how much data was accumulating and pca became my format for most of the audio. i use wavs for live recording but renders are pcas. i have fairly large drives but with over 400 songs in the works(!) it helps! |

Not sure what's going on in Sound Forge. Could be a bug. If you tried saving it in Sound Forge with its ACIDized properties set as "One-shot" and reopen, does it default to Beatmapped again? not usually. just wondered why the prefs in ap7 don't take with renders. |
