I've really just started messing with 3.0's Beatmapper feature, so I'm far from being an expert. The results I've gotten so far, though, have been mixed. One song I mapped came out perfectly after one attempt. Every other song has been a total disaster. I get the first measure sync'ed properly, go through each measure afterward and tweak it, go back to the beginning again and the whole song is completely out of whack. I've gotta be doing something wrong here. Any foolproof suggestions? Thanks in advance. -mcg13 |

I've figured out that if you change a single measure anywhere in the beat mapper it changes all other measures. So, what you have to do is to try to adjust the beats so that they stay on tempo for the longest time possible with out getting out of sync. I hope this makes sense. |

Beatmapper seems like a feature that's only half finished. It's a good idea but at the moment it is only any use for music played strictly to a precise tempo. I posted a message (called 'On the verge of greatness' (I think)) a while ago describing a way I discovered to get Acid to follow 'human' tempo. It’s a really, really awkward procedure but the results are excellent. ...Acid 4 perhaps? |

I would agree with your assessment that Beatmapper appears to be only half-finished. It has the smarts to pinpoint the first downbeat and even determine (with a little help) where the first measure begins and ends. Beyond that, the assumption is that the entire song flows at that same, exact pace without any allowance for human imperfection. If Beatmapper could stretch measures to match the corrections you manually make in the final step, it'd be a pretty wicked tool. But, at least in my opinion, as it is, it's just a great idea that doesn't quite work right. I hope it will become a focus in future patches and upgrades. -mcg |

I have found that it takes more patience. I use Sound Forge XP to cut the program up into pieces where the different tempo's apply The I use BeatMapper to map the separate pieces Then I put them back into the Acid Project, varying the tempo as needed to create a cool remix. I am having real fun with this feature. Though it does take some patience to create a whole song. FYI: The Barenaked Ladies - If You Fall is a long song with a 100% consistent beat from beginning to end if someone wants to start with something simple. |
