I have two sound files. The first one sounds louder than the other. I want to make them sound the same and save the result. Can you describe the appropriate steps I have to follow please?

There are several things that can be done to match levels. First try normalise to peak level on both files. If this does not work, because of peaks holding back the level in one track, try compression, limiting or normalise to an RMS value. Are your files voice or music. The overall volume is set by the loudest peak. Use find to locate it and lower its level to match the rest of the file. Then renormalise. Another way would be to lower the loudest file to match the level of the other one using volume. Use SF output volume control to monitor the level.
