I have a new machine which is running windows 7 64 bit. I am still using my old XP box for ACID pro 6. I am worried about the transition of my files to the new machine. I have pretty much all the recorded audio in the default Sony Acid 6 folder (in my docs) on the xp machine but i am pretty sure the FULL file path is non existant in windows 7.

My quesiton is: will Acid find the files if i just put the "Sony Acid 6" folder into "my documents" again or will it probably force me to search for files every time i open a "Legacy" project. I have HUNDREDS of acid project so all that searching would drive me crazy.

Any thoughts on making a seamless transition??? (to windows 7, and probably acid pro 7)

32bit W7? or 64bit W7?
I believe 64bit WINDOWS 7, it will now have 'PROGRAM FILES (X86) folder for any programs.Which in XP it was just called 'PROGRAM FILES' folder.

Yet another reason i generally refuse to use Windows' "my documents" folders. I always create a folder elsewhere outside of that tree. That way i can recreate it with the same path on any other computer.

One thing you might try is saving the projects as .ACD-ZIP (Acid Zip) files. These bundle the project and all the media files together into one package. When you copy these to the new computer and open them in Acid you can then save them wherever you want and ACID will fix all the paths for you.

it actually works to just drop the sony acid 6 folder from xp mydocs to windows7 mydocs folder!! thats a good start, but after further testing a bunch of my favorite plugins under windows7 prooved to FAIL so i will have to wait a bit longer for full support...

Acid 6 pro did install in windows7 with a little error but was working like a champ! except for whenever i closed a plugin window i got a weird popup from Windows Help... So, not gonna transition for now, I really need those plugins!

Not sure about Acid, but in Vegas you can move a folder and open a project from it (if all it's Vegas media in it), and it will realign everything to that folder.

This MAY work in Acid, but only if you use the 'one big bucket' approach for you project files, as opposed to the discrete folders for ddifferent functions.

geoff
